Teacher and Actor Certification Program Details

Kent State University

Founding Directors of GLMCC believe that a certification program in the technique is of vital importance to reach Chekhov’s goal of “ideal theatre”. At GLMCC, we teach teachers, those who may teach in the future, and actors interested in applying the technique to their work.

To be certified, participants complete three modules of work over a three summer period. It is a sequential program and all participants meet during the same week working in separate spaces. There are other assignments during the year including submitting lesson plans and reflection papers which GLMCC evaluates as part of the certification process.

When we meet in summer for the conference, we work from 9 A.M. – 9:30 P.M. The work is intense and rewardingly exhausting. There are numerous sessions throughout the day and week which follows a curriculum carefully designed by the founding directors of GLMCC. The curriculum follows Michael Chekhov’s, To the Actor, from introduction through composition under the expertise of certified teachers.

There are numerous ‘spy-back’ sessions and participants in modules 2 and 3 have opportunities to teach to their peers. The teaching sessions are evaluated by faculty and results are shared with participants. At midpoint during the conference, participants meet one-on-one with faculty for individual evaluation.

GLMCC welcomes participants who have some background in the Michael Chekhov Technique, have a passion for teaching, and/or acting and are willing to be a part of a strong ensemble.
