Karie Miller (she/they) is an interdisciplinary artist, scholar, and educator specializing in belonging, and the content, behavior, and containers that promote it, primarily through acts of care, play, and joy. Karie is also a Visiting Assistant Professor at Grinnell College where they direct and teach seminar and studio courses (Theatre History, Dramaturgy, Acting Styles) in the Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies Department.
A friend* introduced Karie to GLMCC and the work of Michael Chekhov in 2022. In the technique, she has found a reliable yet pliable framework to support her existing practice. In GLMCC, she has found a joyful and affirming artistic community—something for which she’s been searching for quite some time. She certified as a teacher with GLMCC in 2025, when she also joined the faculty as GLMCC’s Wellness Coordinator.
Karie has worked throughout Chicago and the Midwest since 2008. Her original projects include solo and devised performance (Simultaneity Game, Four People), performance events (Chicago League Lady Arm-Wresters 2008-2014), conferences, workshops, and multipurpose collaborative gatherings. She holds a BFA from Northern Kentucky University, an MFA from the University of Virginia, and PhD from the Ohio State University.
