Statement on Inclusion, Safety, and Community

At the Great Lakes Michael Chekhov Consortium (GLMCC), we are deeply committed to creating a space that is safe, inclusive, affirming, and welcoming for all artists.

We recognize that this moment in history carries heightened fear and anxiety for many in our community—especially for our BIPOC, immigrant, non-binary, trans, and queer participants. We hear those concerns and take them seriously. GLMCC is founded on the core values of mutual respect, artistic exploration, and human dignity. We are not simply a training ground—we are a collective. And in this collective, no one is “other.” We are one.

To that end, we commit to the following:

Zero Tolerance for Discrimination or Harassment

There is absolutely no space for bullying, xenophobia, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or any form of bias in our classrooms, shared spaces, or communications. Violations of this expectation will be addressed immediately.

Supportive Structures

We are developing a Buddy System for participants who would like a walking or travel companion on and off campus. This will be opt-in, and we will prioritize the needs of our BIPOC and LGBTQIA2S+ community members.

Ongoing Faculty Dialogue

Our faculty will continue to meet, learn, and grow in our approach to inclusion and safety, and we are committed to centering the voices of those most impacted by marginalization.
We acknowledge that universities are no longer guaranteed safe zones from political targeting—and we reject the fear and division that comes with that. While we cannot control the broader climate, we can control the kind of community we build within GLMCC. And that community is one of protection, care, and radical hospitality.

If you are a prospective participant with concerns, we welcome a conversation. Please reach out. We are here to listen, and we are here to walk alongside you.

In solidarity and with open arms,
The GLMCC Faculty and Leadership Team

The Ideal Theatre Grant

At GLMCC, we seek to build a diverse community of teaching artists who put equity, inclusion, and anti-racism into the heart of their artistic and teaching practices.
This grant has been established to support Black, Hispanic, Asian, Indigenous and other people of color as teachers/artists during their certification process at GLMCC. In doing so, we seek to diversify not only the community of Michael Chekhov Technique teachers and practitioners, but also the training itself.
To be considered for this grant, please fill out the form Here
The application deadline is February 1st.
